Is Stardew Valley Cross Platform? PC, Console and Mobile
Check Stardew Valley crossplay for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and mobile, including the experimental mobile option and Switch 2 GameShare limits.
Stardew Valley does not support general crossplay between PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Windows, Mac and Linux players can share a farm. Standard Android and iOS editions also have an experimental way to join a PC host, but that does not enable PC-to-console play.
Buying a copy for a friend? Find your two platforms in the table before paying. The important distinction is between copies that can share a farm and copies that each happen to have multiplayer.

Stardew Valley crossplay: which platforms work together?

|---|---|---|
| Windows, Mac and Linux | Yes | Compatible desktop copies on matching game versions |
| Steam PC and GOG PC | Yes | Use the co-op invite code or supported connection method |
| PC and Xbox console | No | A PC storefront or subscription does not bridge the console version |
| PC and PS4/PS5 | No | Desktop and PlayStation sessions are separate |
| PC and Switch/Switch 2 | No | Nintendo GameShare does not connect to PC farms |
| Xbox and PlayStation | No | There is no shared cross-console session |
| Switch and Xbox or PlayStation | No | Choose compatible versions within the same platform family |
| Standard Android/iOS and PC | Experimental | IP connection to a PC-hosted farm; see the mobile section |
| Stardew Valley+ on Apple Arcade | No experimental co-op | The “+” edition is excluded from the mobile feature |
| Switch 2 host and Switch guest via local GameShare | Supported sharing route | Use the Switch 2 Edition’s GameShare mode, not a PC invite |
| Original Switch edition and Switch 2 Edition in ordinary online co-op | Unconfirmed | GameShare support does not establish ordinary cross-edition online play; see below |
Can PC play with Xbox, PlayStation or Switch?
No. A PC copy and an Xbox console copy cannot share a farm, even if you bought the PC version through an Xbox-branded store. Steam and Switch are also separate.
For those pairings, both people need access to a supported platform group. Changing network settings or updating the game will not add the missing crossplay support.
How Steam, GOG, Windows and Mac players connect
Computer players have more flexibility. A Mac player does not need to buy a Windows computer to join a friend’s desktop farm, and Steam and GOG copies can play together.
- The host opens the farm from Co-op → Host on the title screen.
- Make sure the farm has a cabin for each guest. For an existing farm, cabins can be built through Robin.
- For online play, the host shares the invite code; the guest enters it in the Co-op join menu.
- If the code option is absent, check that Steam or GOG Galaxy is running and signed in, and that everyone has the same game version.
If a supported desktop pairing still fails, work through the developer’s multiplayer troubleshooting guide. Start with the farm’s cabins, game versions and invite options.
Can mobile players join a PC farm?

Yes, using the experimental feature in the standard Android or iOS game. Apple Arcade’s Stardew Valley+ is excluded. For the simplest setup, use a PC host and connect the phone to the same local network.
- Back up the farm save and put both games on matching versions.
- On the phone’s title screen, tap the logo’s leaves in this order: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. Tap the question-mark button, then close its menu. Co-op should appear.
- Open the farm through Co-op on the PC and make sure a cabin is available for the guest.
- On the phone, choose Co-op, then Join, and enter the hosting PC’s local IP address, not the phone’s address.
The official mobile guide shows the leaf positions. On iOS, allow local-network access when prompted; the first connection may fail, so try joining again. This remains experimental, so use a backed-up save.
Switch and Switch 2: what GameShare actually allows
For a nearby Switch and Switch 2, local GameShare is a supported option. The host needs the Switch 2 Edition on a Switch 2. Guests receive the shared session and can use compatible original Switch or Switch 2 systems without owning another copy.
For GameShare over the internet, everyone needs a Switch 2 and the session uses GameChat. An original Switch cannot join that internet GameShare session. Nintendo’s GameShare FAQ explains the hardware limits.
Can the original Switch version join the Switch 2 Edition online?
The official Nintendo pages do not explicitly confirm this pairing for ordinary online co-op. They confirm GameShare, which is a different way to play. Running the original Switch game on a Switch 2 is also a different setup from running the Switch 2 Edition.
If you already own the two editions, update both and try joining through Co-op before changing anything else. If online play together is the reason for your purchase, get confirmation for those exact editions first. The local GameShare option above works for nearby players; it does not connect an original Switch guest from another home.
Does Stardew Valley have cross-save?
There is no universal account that keeps one farm synchronized across PC, consoles and mobile. Crossplay lets two people join a session; cross-save lets one person carry progress between versions.
Some PC/mobile saves can be transferred manually by copying files. Keep an untouched backup and confirm that the versions are compatible first. Console saves use different arrangements, so PC/mobile transfer instructions are not a general console solution.
