Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition includes the base game, four story expansions and two equipment packs. It gives you the complete set of six gameplay add-ons, but it is not a remake or a separate sequel.

For a first purchase, Ultimate puts the campaign and its add-ons together. Already own the game and all six add-ons on the same platform? You have the same gameplay content, so buying the bundle again adds nothing.

What is included in New Vegas Ultimate Edition?

One base game and six add-ons
Included content Type What you get
Fallout: New Vegas Base game The main Mojave campaign
Dead Money Story expansion The Sierra Madre adventure
Honest Hearts Story expansion An expedition into Zion
Old World Blues Story expansion The Big MT adventure
Lonesome Road Story expansion A journey through the Divide
Courier’s Stash Equipment pack The four original preorder equipment packs
Gun Runners’ Arsenal Equipment and challenge pack Weapons, ammunition, modifications and challenges

The Steam listing counts seven items because it includes the base game. Four add-ons take you to new story locations; the other two expand your equipment and challenges.

Ultimate Edition versus the standard version

The standard version contains the Mojave campaign without the six add-ons. Ultimate adds those packs; it does not upgrade the base game’s graphics.

Choose Ultimate if you want the expansions as well as the main campaign. A cheaper standard copy can make sense if you only want to try New Vegas, but compare the price gap before deciding.

Already own some DLC? Add up the cost of the missing packs and compare it with the bundle. A sale can make Ultimate cheaper, even with duplicates; at another time, buying one missing expansion may cost less.

What changes when the DLC is installed?

The four story expansions each raise the level cap by five. With all four installed, the cap rises from 30 to 50. Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal do not raise it further.

The expansions begin from within your New Vegas save. Their radio messages and quests become available as you enter the Mojave; you do not start them as four separate games from a launcher. Bethesda’s DLC access guide identifies each starting location.

Those new quests can make the opening feel crowded. Leave them for later while you get established in the Mojave. Before entering an expansion, make a separate save and read its in-game warning; a quest appearing in your log does not mean your character is ready for it.

Can you play Ultimate Edition on your current device?

Ultimate Edition originally came out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Here is what matters if you are buying it now:

  • Windows PC: buy a copy for the storefront you use. A Steam code belongs to Steam, and a used PC box may contain a code that has already been redeemed.
  • Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S: Microsoft’s New Vegas listing confirms the older game is playable on these consoles. The base-game listing sells add-ons separately, so the DLC entitlement still matters. A digital-only console cannot use the physical Ultimate discs.
  • PlayStation 3: the PS3 Ultimate release is a PS3 game. Buy for that hardware rather than expecting a newer-console upgrade.
  • PlayStation 5: a PS3 Ultimate disc will not run in a PS5. Sony’s compatibility guide rules out PS3 discs. Any subscription-streaming offer is separate from owning that disc and needs its own content check.

A subscription that gives you the base game may leave the six add-ons out. Look at the included content on that specific offer before buying extra DLC or another edition.

Xbox One: use Disc 2 for the physical Ultimate Edition

If you have the two-disc Xbox 360 Ultimate Edition and are installing it on Xbox One, Bethesda’s instructions say to insert Disc 2. This queues the base game and DLC for installation. Installing from only the first disc can leave you wondering where the expansions went.

Then open the console’s game-management menu to see which add-ons installed. Bethesda’s Xbox One installation instructions cover this two-disc setup. If you bought digitally, use the purchasing account to find your add-ons instead.

Is Ultimate the same as the 15th Anniversary Bundle?

No. The 15th Anniversary Bundle is a collector’s package that includes a PC Ultimate Edition code alongside physical items such as a Victor statue, cards, a pin and patches.

An ordinary digital Ultimate purchase does not include those collectibles. If a seller uses a photo of the anniversary box, read the itemized listing before assuming you are buying everything in the picture.
