Watch Haikyuu Seasons 1–3, the two Tokyo-qualifier OVAs, all 25 episodes of Season 4: To the Top, then The Dumpster Battle. If you have finished both parts of Season 4, the movie is your next main-story step. The four earlier compilation films are optional recaps.

Haikyuu watch order for a first viewing

The table includes the main TV story and the Tokyo teams’ qualifier episodes. Three optional earlier extras are listed separately below, so you can add them without confusing them with new seasons.

The main Haikyuu viewing route, including the Tokyo qualifiers
Order What to watch Length
1 Haikyu!! — Season 1 25 episodes
2 Haikyu!! Second Season — Season 2 25 episodes
3 Haikyu!! Karasuno High School vs. Shiratorizawa Academy — Season 3 10 episodes
4 Land vs. Air, then The Path of the Ball Two OVA episodes
5 Haikyu!! To the Top — Season 4, both parts 25 episodes total
6 Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle One story film, released in 2024

The four TV seasons total 85 episodes, as listed in the official series event catalog. OADs, OVAs and films sit outside that television count.

Where do the OVAs and OADs fit?

There are five extra episodes to identify. Three are optional additions around the earlier seasons; the other two show the Tokyo qualifiers and are worth including before To the Top.

Haikyuu extra episodes and convenient viewing positions
Title to look for When to watch Why include it?
Haikyu!! Lev Appears! After Season 1 An optional Nekoma-focused extra featuring Lev.
VS Failing Marks After Season 2 for an uninterrupted-season route An optional school-exam story alongside the early Season 2 material.
Special Feature! The Spring Tournament of Their Youth After Season 3 An optional television-feature-style extra with interviews about the teams.
Land vs. Air After Season 3, before Season 4 The first Tokyo-qualifier episode.
The Path of the Ball Immediately after Land vs. Air The second Tokyo-qualifier episode; continue to Season 4 afterward.

OVA and OAD are release labels you may see attached to these extras, not names of additional seasons. Some catalogs collect the final two episodes under Land vs. Air. The official OVA package contains both Land vs. Air and The Path of the Ball; do not count the package as a third episode.

The first three after-season placements are viewing recommendations that keep each TV season together, not exact chronological episode boundaries.

Can you skip the OVAs?

For the shortest Karasuno route, follow the four TV seasons and The Dumpster Battle. Land vs. Air and The Path of the Ball add the Tokyo teams’ qualifying story; include them before Season 4 for that context. The other three extras can wait.

Which Haikyuu movies are recaps?

The first four theatrical films are compilations of the TV story. In movie release order, they are the four entries below, followed by the new-story film The Dumpster Battle.

The four Haikyuu recap films, not required after the corresponding seasons
Movie Year TV material revisited
Ending and Beginning — Owari to Hajimari (終わりと始まり) 2015 The first of two Season 1 compilation films. Also called Endings and Beginnings.
Winners and Losers — Shousha to Haisha (勝者と敗者) 2015 The second Season 1 compilation film.
Talent and Sense — Sainou to Sense (才能とセンス) 2017 The Aoba Johsai match from Season 2.
Battle of Concepts — Konseputo no Tatakai (コンセプトの戦い) 2017 The Shiratorizawa match from Season 3.

The official compilation catalog separates these films from The Dumpster Battle. Japanese names are included above because English translations vary between listings. For the first two, check that you have selected a movie, not a similarly titled television episode.

Skip these four if you have just watched the corresponding seasons and want the next part of the story. If you want to revisit the matches in movie form, watch the first pair after Season 1, Talent and Sense after Season 2, and Battle of Concepts after Season 3.

“Recap” does not mean that every frame is identical: Production I.G identifies new cuts in the two 2017 compilations. They remain retellings of earlier matches, however, not the next chapter after Season 4. For a first viewing, the TV seasons give you the fuller route rather than a movie-only shortcut through the series.

When should you watch The Dumpster Battle?

Watch Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle after finishing all 25 episodes of To the Top. If your catalog divides Season 4 into two parts, finish both.

The 2024 film continues the national tournament with Karasuno and Nekoma. Do not substitute the older Battle of Concepts, which recaps a different match.

Missed Land vs. Air and The Path of the Ball? You can catch up on those two Tokyo-qualifier episodes before The Dumpster Battle without rewatching Season 4.

What is announced for 2027?

As of September 9, 2026, two follow-ups are announced for 2027: a movie and a separate special. Keep them off a checklist of titles you can already watch.

Announced Haikyuu follow-ups, separate from the released watch order
Title Format Announced window
Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant (VS 小さな巨人) Film 2027
Haikyu!! Bakemono-tachi no Ikutokoro (バケモノたちの行くところ) Special anime; the Japanese title translates as Where the Monsters Go 2027

Production I.G announced both projects for 2027, and the official August 2026 update retains that year for the film. The two projects cover stories on the same in-world day; that alone does not establish which you must watch first. A precise release sequence is not specified in those announcements.

If you are searching for a “Haikyuu Season 5 release date,” these are the named upcoming projects to distinguish from the existing TV seasons. They are announced as a film and a special, not as a fifth television season.

To the Top Part 2 is still Season 4

To the Top was released in two parts. Both belong to the fourth season: episodes 1–13, then 14–25. A platform’s separate part, language or bonus-content menu can make the list look longer than four TV seasons.

Use the episode range to confirm you have finished Season 4. Trailers, music videos and puppet-animation shorts are outside the main story checklist.

Streaming availability and English title wording vary by region. This guide identifies what to watch and where it fits; it does not assume that every season, extra and film is available on one service in your country.
