When should you watch the Special?
The Special takes place between TV episodes 4 and 5. The official Film & Concert report identifies that position for the extra episode.
Insert it after episode 4 if you prefer story placement, or save it until after episode 13 to keep the season uninterrupted. You get the same extra story either way.
“Special,” “OVA” and “Extra Episode” refer to this same additional episode here. Netflix lists it separately as Violet Evergarden: Special, with a runtime of about 34 minutes. Its story involves Violet writing lyrics for an opera singer, which is a useful way to identify it if your service uses a different label.
Which Violet Evergarden movie comes first?
Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll (2019)
Watch Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll first, after the series and Special. It is the film with the longer subtitle, centered on Violet’s work with a young woman at a girls’ school. The official side-story site identifies it as a separate project.
Eternity is a side story rather than a missing second season. Include it for the fuller route, or leave it for later if you want to move directly from the series to the 2020 film.
Violet Evergarden the Movie (2020)
Violet Evergarden the Movie continues and concludes Violet’s story after the TV series. Its plain title can look like a feature-length introduction, but it is a follow-up, not a remake of Season 1.
Is Violet Evergarden: Recollections required?
No. Netflix describes Recollections as a condensed recap of the television series. Its 2021 release year does not make it a sequel to the 2020 film.
If you remember the series, skip it and continue with the story releases in the table. If you watched the series a long time ago, it can serve as a refresher before the films. For a first viewing, the 13 episodes remain the better fit for following the individual letter-writing stories without relying on a summary.
