For a first watch, follow Psycho-Pass in release order: Season 1, Season 2, the 2015 Movie, the three Sinners of the System films, Season 3, First Inspector, then Providence. Choose either the original or Extended Edition of Season 1—you do not need both. Providence comes last in release order but takes place before Season 3.

Psycho-Pass watch order by release

Use this release order for a first viewing. Pick one version of Season 1, watch all three Sinners of the System films, and keep First Inspector directly after Season 3. Years below are original Japanese release years.

Should you watch the original or Extended Edition?

Choose the original 22 episodes or the 11-episode Extended Edition. Both fill the Season 1 slot. Use the original if you want the first TV presentation; use Extended if you prefer its added footage or that is the version you can access.

Fuji TV’s description explains that the original 22 episodes were re-edited into 11 longer installments with added footage. Eleven episodes here does not mean it is a short recap or that half the story has been removed.

  • Starting fresh: pick one version and finish it before Season 2. The original is the default used in the table.
  • Only the Extended Edition is available: use it in the Season 1 slot, then continue to Psycho-Pass 2.
  • Already finished the original: you do not need to repeat Season 1 before moving on. Save the alternate edit for a rewatch if the additional material interests you.

Do not confuse the two 11-episode listings: Extended Edition retells Season 1 in a different edit; Psycho-Pass 2 is the next season. Their titles, not episode counts alone, tell you which is which.

How to watch Sinners of the System

Watch the three films in their numbered order after the 2015 movie: Crime and Punishment, First Guardian, then Beyond the Pale of Vengeance. The official release announcement gives the same sequence: January 25, February 15 and March 8, 2019.

Sinners of the System, often shortened to SS, is the umbrella title for all three. It is not a fourth film to add after Case 3. Likewise, the two English subtitles used for Case 3 identify the same film, not alternate sequels.

All three cases add new stories about the wider cast. They are not compilation films.

Where does Providence fit chronologically?

Providence belongs between Sinners of the System Case 3 and Psycho-Pass 3 in the story. The film’s official introduction specifically describes it as the link between those two entries.

Two ways to arrange the later Psycho-Pass releases
Your preference Order after Sinners of the System Case 3
Follow release order Psycho-Pass 3 → First Inspector → Providence
Place Providence by story chronology Providence → Psycho-Pass 3 → First Inspector

The second row moves Providence only. It is not a scene-by-scene chronology of every flashback in the franchise.

What comes after Psycho-Pass 3?

Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector comes directly after the eight episodes of Season 3. Do not stop at the television finale if you want the continuation of that season’s investigation.

Production I.G’s announcement identifies First Inspector as a continuation that brings the Season 3 conflict to its conclusion. It is not a recap movie, and it is not Season 4.

If your service presents First Inspector as three episodes, watch Act One, Act Two and Act Three in that order. Prime Video has used this three-part grouping under a “Season 4” menu label. Those three acts fill the First Inspector slot; they are not an additional television season to watch after the film.

How to avoid duplicate or mislabeled watch steps

Check full titles when films appear under a season selector. A “Season 4” label containing First Inspector Acts One–Three is the same continuation listed at step 8.

Streaming rights, audio tracks and catalog groupings vary by region. Check the title and edition in your local service; a later streaming date should not be used to reorder the anime’s original releases.
