Black Clover Watch Order: TV Series, Movie and Specials
Watch Black Clover episodes 1–170, place the optional movie and specials, and check the scheduled return date for the next TV season.
Start Black Clover with TV episodes 1–170, then add Sword of the Wizard King if you want the optional standalone film. Event specials and Squishy! Black Clover are extras. The new TV continuation is upcoming; its announced Japanese start date is in the 2nd Season section.
The main Black Clover viewing order
For a first watch, follow the original TV series by episode number. You do not need to interrupt it for a movie or an event special.
| Entry | Release | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Black Clover — original TV series | 2017–2021; episodes 1–170 | Start here and keep the numbered episodes in order. |
| Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King | 2023 movie | Optional film after episode 170; it does not replace the TV continuation. |
| Black Clover — 2nd Season | Upcoming: October 3, 2026 in Japan | The announced TV continuation, not part of the already released 170-episode run. See the broadcast details below. |
Finished episode 170? You have reached the end of the original run. The optional movie is available as a separate story; the new TV continuation is scheduled to begin in Japan on October 3, 2026.

When should you watch Sword of the Wizard King?
Watch Sword of the Wizard King after episode 170 for this first-watch route. You will have met the cast without interrupting the TV run. This is a viewing recommendation, not a claim that the movie takes place immediately after that episode.
Netflix describes the film as standalone, with original manga creator Yūki Tabata involved as a supervisor. You do not need to insert it between specific TV episodes to follow this route, and it is not the next batch of TV episodes.
The film was released on June 16, 2023. Older announcements giving March 31 refer to its earlier planned date, not its eventual release.
The event specials and Squishy! Black Clover
Save these extras until after the original TV series. They are outside its 170 numbered episodes:
| Title | What it is | Where to put it |
|---|---|---|
| Black Clover — Jump Special Anime Festa 2016 special | An event animation later included with the limited edition of manga volume 11 in 2017. | An earlier extra to explore after the TV series; it is not episode 1 of the 2017 run. |
| The All Magic Knights Thanksgiving Festa | The 2018 event special featuring a quiz competition. | An event bonus after the main TV run. |
| Squishy! Black Clover | An eight-episode short spin-off with chibi versions of the characters. | An extras playlist, separate from the main story. |
The official Black Clover Anime Special DVD listing helps untangle the last two entries: the 2021 disc collects all eight Squishy! shorts plus the 2018 event special. It is a compilation of those extras, not nine more episodes of the main TV series.
What does “2nd Season” mean in 2026?
The official Japanese branding calls the 2017–2021 run 1st Season and the announced continuation 2nd Season. If the service you use already divides the original run into several seasons, follow the episode numbers to distinguish that packaging from the new production.
TV Tokyo’s September 7 announcement schedules the continuation for October 3, 2026, at 11 p.m. in Japan. That is a Japanese broadcast date; it does not establish a release time for every country or streaming service.
Road to 2nd Season is a catch-up campaign for the original run, not the new continuation.
