Sonic Movies in Order: Where Knuckles Fits

Watch Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), then Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024). The optional six-episode Knuckles series goes between films 2 and 3. The table below includes that slot; skip it for a movies-only watch.

Sonic movies in order, with the optional Knuckles series

The Paramount film series starts with the unnumbered Sonic the Hedgehog from 2020. The sequels follow its numbering, so a movies-only watch does not need a separate timeline.

These are the live-action/CGI films, not the games with similar names. Starting with the 2020 movie introduces this version of Sonic, Tom Wachowski and Dr. Robotnik before the sequels expand the group.

Where does Knuckles fit in the movie order?

Knuckles goes after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and before Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Paramount’s official series description confirms that placement. It is a six-episode series released in 2024, not an unnumbered fourth movie.

If you only want the movies

For movies only, go directly from Sonic 2 to Sonic 3. Knuckles is an optional side adventure.

If you have already watched Sonic 2

Watch all six Knuckles episodes if you want its side adventure, then continue to Sonic 3. You can also go straight to the third film.

Is chronological order different from release order?

For whole films and episodes, use the same order. The two 2024 entries are not interchangeable: Knuckles comes before Sonic 3.

How many Sonic movies are out, and what about Sonic 4?

Three Paramount Sonic movies have been released as of September 11, 2026. Paramount lists Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for March 19, 2027 in U.S. cinemas.

That is the announced theatrical date on Paramount’s U.S. site, not a worldwide streaming date. Release plans can change, so check the film’s official listing when planning a future cinema visit.

Do other Sonic shows belong in this order?

Sonic X, Sonic Boom and Sonic Prime are separate animated shows, not extra seasons in this Paramount film route. The older anime also released as Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie is outside this live-action/CGI series; its similar title does not make it the movie before Sonic (2020).

Before you start: check the title and format

If you are watching with children, check the age rating and content advice shown in your country. A family-film label is not a guarantee that every scene suits every child. Availability, audio languages and subtitles also depend on the service and region you choose.
